With a stunning landscape of majestic mountains, lakes and rivers, it is no wonder Shuswap, B.C. is a popular spot for outdoor excitement. Rest at one of Shuswap’s peaceful lakes or beaches, explore the terrain on an ATV or experience the rush of a river rafting expedition. Shuswap offers boundless activities everyone will enjoy! Learn about some of the outdoor adventures you should try out in Shuswap and start planning your holiday today!

Hiking

From timid trekkers to hardcore mountaineers, Shuswap is overflowing with hiking trails. Journey alongside an enchanting heritage river or make you way through charming forests. Rest and unwind at the foot of a waterfall. From the vibrant alpine meadows to the variety of wildlife and birds; all hikers will love the natural beauty of the Shuswap landscape. Hiking trails are abundant throughout the Falkland Area, North and South Shuswap, Salmon Arm and the Sicamous region.

Shuswap Lake

The largest lake in Shuswap with an approximate 400 kms of shoreline to explore, Shuswap Lake is a must-see attraction! The lake offers a number of outdoor activities including boating, fishing, water-skiing, hiking, paddling or simply sunbathing. The surrounding area is also a sight to see with rolling hills and lush forests. With an array of amazing things to do, everyone in your party will find something they’ll enjoy at Shuswap Lake!

ATV Tours/Rentals

Explore the Shuswap terrain backcountry style through the vigour and power of an ATV. As these vehicles are developed to handle rough, uneasy terrain, you can broaden your limits and explore more of the stunning Shuswap landscape! All ATV drivers must present a valid drivers license in order to rent. Minimum age of drivers is 16 years of age, however some ATV companies have a minimum of 19 years of age.

River Rafting

Get your heart pumping and embark on an exciting Adams River rafting adventure! Whether you’re a beginner rafter or an experienced whitewater enthusiast, you will love the adrenaline kick this ride has to offer! Adams River is situated in Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park. Allow a minimum of 2 ½ hours for trips including a shuttle ride to and from the river.

Salmon Run

Encounter true miracles of nature at the annual salmon run on the Adams River. For a few weeks in the month of October, millions of salmon rush through the Adam’s River to carry out their life cycle. After they have matured in the waters of the Pacific, they amazingly return to the precise rivers and streams in which they spawned. This is a sight you can’t miss! You’ll be in awe as the lakes fill up with a flow of reddish-pink. Although the salmon run occurs once every year, there is a peak year every four years (2006, 2010) with substantially more fish returning. Salmon make the swim upstream in the fall each year.

Parents know that they have to work hard to support their family financially and emotionally. It is very easy to lose the sight of other priorities when your jobs get the best of you; it just sucks the fun out of you. We all know that each parent must make a living to support their families, but parents should take into consideration your family’s emotional well being. By spending time with your family, you will be able to let them know that they are loved and they are an important part of the family. You can successfully buy out memorable quality time with your family by going on a family adventure vacation.

When planning the adventure of a lifetime, who better to spend your time with than your loved ones. There are loads of places to visit on your family adventure vacation. You can go river rafting, mountain climbing, camping, and horse back riding or swimming. If you can afford traveling to other places then do so. Go sights seeing to those wondrous places such as Greece or Paris. Or if you want a more tropical kind of family adventure vacation try visiting the Caribbean or Hawaii. You could also try island hopping to various beautiful islands.

Enjoy your family adventure vacation on a trip to Africa. You can walk with elephants; visit the most impressive wild life reserves. You can also feel the thrill of being in an untamed wild land.
Discover the wonders of different places on your family adventure vacation.

Spending time with your loved ones would be the most wonderful gift that you could give to your family. Real treasure is not found in the things that we get such as cell phones or a brand new car, or a hot pair of shoes, it is found with in us, and that’s the gift of true happiness.

People who are fascinated with places that have rich culture should go on an adventure vacation in Ghana, specifically the city of Cape Coast. The place, which can be found in the central region of Ghana, is a place that has a dark history of colonialism and slave trading.

But, its beautiful coastline that can be seen in the present does not have traces of the place’s dark history: the picture of millions of slaves that are shackled and leaving Cape Coast Castle to go to the New World. Now, the amazing coastline does not have a picture of the slaves but of fishermen who are catching various kinds of fish and other seafood for a living.

What is truly exciting about the Cape Coast city is that is gives you a wonderful feeling being out there in the vastness of the ocean. Imagine, isn’t it quite an adventure to walk though a large stretch of a dotted coastline where you can see historic architecture that bear European style, numerous ports that have specific good to offer, several trading stations where you can find rare and valuable items, and castles–some of them are ruined by time–that surround the 300-mile stretch of Ghana’s coast.

Those who are into heritage and rich culture of a certain place will definitely enjoy an adventure vacation in Cape Coast City especially of you get to see the UNESCO heritage site, the Cape Coast Castle and the 15th-century Elmina Castle as well as the Fort St. Jago, right beside the Elmina.

If you go beyond the coast, you will find out that the land is as charming as its coastline. Traveling by land, you can visit the Kakum National Park that boast of a rainforest that can easily be accessed. It has canopy walkways that allow people to have a panoramic view of the fauna as well as the animals including exotic kinds of birds, monkeys, and crocodiles.

If you are up for activities that would pump up adrenalin rush, you can book for a safari. You can also go trekking in the mountains, fishing for some good qualities of fish and other seafood, canoeing or sailing. For an ultimate adventure, try on being a Ghanian for a day by imbibing their lifestyle.

Everything sounds great but you will have to prepare some things before going off to an adventure vacation in Cape Coast city in Ghana including:

- the place to stay which can either be the Bridge House that is located across the Elmina Castle and the Biriwa Beach Hotel which can be found in a small fishing village called Biriwa. The accommodations usually range from inexpensive to moderately expensive. Breakfast is the only meal that is being served with the accommodation.

- how to get there because this will give you an idea of the place where you wish to experience your ultimate adventure vacation. There are actually two ways of getting to Cape Coast city–via air travel or land travel. If you are traveling by air, you can take Delta Airlines from JFK Airport in New York to Accra or you can travel by land by taking a taxi or cab from the capital of Accra which is 80 miles away from Cape Coast city.

- time of going there which will ensure the success of adventure vacation in Cape Coast city, Ghana. The overall weather condition in Ghana is hot and humid the whole year. It is best to go there from October to March because these are the drier months. The peak season is from August to December where majority of the activities are held. Don’t go in the months of April to July because this is the rainy season.

The fastest growing trend in the kayaking industry is clearly the use of inflatable kayaks. Today’s technology makes these inflatable crafts more rugged and maneuverable, while remaining lightweight and portable. Even seasoned kayakers are gradually making the switch to inflatable kayaks.

Inflatable Kayaks are Extremely Portable

If you have ever owned a hard-shell kayak, you realize how difficult it can be to transport your kayak. You have little alternative to strapping your kayak to the roof of your vehicle. Then you have to drive to a road accessible ocean, lake or river. Next you have to awkwardly carry your hard-shell kayak to the water. Hopefully the water isn’t too far from where you had to park your vehicle.

With an inflatable kayak, you simply fold the deflated kayak into a backpack and you can go anywhere. Most inflatable kayaks are less than forty pounds in weight and some are even less than thirty pounds. They also fold up very compact once deflated. Transporting them in the back of your car is no problem at all. Then think of all the mountain trails you can take your inflatable kayak to. You could easily paddle on remote lakes or rivers. Or how about taking your kayak on vacation with you? Bring it in your luggage on the plane and you could be kayaking almost anywhere in the world. That would be pretty difficult to do with a hard-shell kayak. You could take an inflatable kayak on a city bus or bicycle to the water. During off season, the kayak would take up minimal storage space.

Inflatable Kayaks are Tough and Durable

When most people think of an inflatable kayak, they picture a cheaply made plastic boat for kids. They picture a kayak that would burst from hitting the smallest rock or branch. If you’ve owned one of the older, cheaper style inflatable boats, you know you also have to invest in repair patches or a roll of duct tape.

New high quality inflatable kayaks are changing people’s impressions of inflatable boats. New inflatable crafts are made from puncture and abrasion resistant rubber, often reinforced with polyester fabric. This is much stronger than the PVC material used for most cheap inflatable boats. Under normal circumstances it is quite unlikely that you would puncture these new rubber materials. Even if you did, most inflatable kayaks have at least three separate air chambers.

Inflatable Kayaks are Easy to Use

What is easier than carrying your kayak right to the water’s edge and inflating it with a foot pump within five to ten minutes? Most people have pumped up an air mattress at least once as a child. Then after it is filled to the appropriate air pressure, set your inflatable kayak in the water and get in like any other kayak. You can straddle the kayak and then sit down. Or you can place your paddle across the kayak to brace yourself as you get in.

Kayaks are very stable, but with inflatable kayaks it can be much easier to get back in if you fall out. You simply grab the cockpit of the kayak and pull yourself up like you’re getting out of a swimming pool. This makes an inflatable kayak very convenient for snorkeling or swimming. Before getting back in, it is easy to dump out any water that gets aboard. Some inflatable boats are even self bailing.

Another misconception about inflatable kayaks is that they have very poor maneuverability. People think you would have very little control in an inflatable kayak. This isn’t the case with newer inflatable kayaks though. Many of these inflatable boats have optional foot controlled rudders to make for easy turning without missing a stroke. Some of these optional rudders just help the kayak track straight. A lot of inflatable kayaks have maneuverability comparable to hard-shell boats.

Where Can I Use an Inflatable Kayak?

Inflatable kayaks are made in a variety of styles to accommodate almost any conditions. For the casual kayaker, there are lower priced models best suited for flat-water lakes and rivers. There are more expensive models designed for moderate or advanced whitewater. Many models are even suitable for surfing. Many people like to use their inflatable kayak for fishing or hunting. You can get to more remote locations or fish directly from your kayak. Inflatable boats are also great for shallow water that would be too difficult for a hard-shell boat to manage.

Conclusion

For either a beginner or an advanced kayaker, inflatable kayaks are becoming a popular choice. They are extremely versatile and much cheaper than a hard-shell kayak. For less than half the price, you would be able to take your kayak to a variety of places that you never thought possible. While you probably wouldn’t be able to perform any barrel rolls, you can still have a lot of fun with an inflatable kayak. Once you try an inflatable kayak, you’ll wonder why you ever used a hard-shell.

There are a lot of varieties of kayaks that you can consider before going into kayaking. Kayaks will normally be categorized as leisure kayaks, fishing kayaks, surf play kayaks or kayaks on tour. Ahead of opting for whatever kayak you think of, you should first of all determine the mode in which it is going to be used. But above all, your wellbeing and ease while using the kayak should be of first and utmost importance.

<br />

What you should also know is that there are various types of materials used for making kayaks. It is obvious that the type of material used in making the kayak will also determine the ease and safety in using the kayak. Once you have made a decision to pay for a kayak or any other equipment relating to it, you should first of all get some lessons or even a handbook that teaches you on how to use it. Remember that you are not only scouting an opportunity to perfect your skills in using these equipments, but you are equally making sure that your safety is supreme. Take note of the following types of kayaks:

Fishing Kayaks

This type of kayak is very fashionable. Throughout the years, kayakers have favored this type of kayak when thinking of fishing pastimes. This type of kayak is very convenient in getting to areas in which any other normal kayak will not get to. The fishing kayak is also of two categories.

The first type will involve that which the kayaker normally sits on top and the second will include the type of kayak in which the sitting position is in a cockpit. Whatever design you intend to use, you should make sure that you have researched on the advantages and disadvantages of each ahead of making your decision.

The kayak with a cockpit is habitually used than that with a sit-on position. But this cockpit kayak will additionally require you to wear a skirt just about the cockpit so that water should not get into the cockpit. But if the cockpit is filled with water, this can only be drained manually. Remember that the fishing kayak can be used for any type of kayaking. Some will even include a place where you can preserve your catch.

If you have to put ease of use when deciding on which type of kayak to use, the sit-on-top kayak should be preferable. Keep in mind that the sitting position means that it can be very convenient for you to move your legs about and even to reach the shallow waters and fish. Remember that if you are kayaking in warm waters, it will be more convenient to sit out of the kayak. Some kayakers will also find it easy to adapt a relaxed seat on this type of kayak. This type of kayak should also be preferable if you will be spending longer hours in water.

Leisure Kayaks or Kayaks Used For Tour

Such kayaks are really great for the beginner. Remember that such kayaks have been created with the notion of leisure in mind and have been tailored to meet the demands of every weather condition. A lot of such kayaks have additional luggage compartments that can survive the kayaker for almost two days. Leisure kayaks are just like kayaks meant for touring. But leisure kayaks are more likely to be used on calm waters.

One thing about kayaks meant for touring is that they are stronger than leisure kayaks and they have a storage compartment which can take up one or two day’s supplies. This type of kayak is generally stronger than leisure kayaks. If you want to know the quality of kayak equipments, the best way is to test the equipments. This can be done in person or you can get to the waters with an experienced kayaker.

Barcelona is one of the most interesting and beautiful cities on Earth. Luckily, there are dozens of tours you can take to get the most out of your trip to Barcelona, whether you’re there for a week or a single day.

One of the best ways to see Barcelona if you’re only stopping there for a day is to take an eight-hour sightseeing tour. These tours allow you to spend an entire morning and afternoon exploring the highlights of Barcelona, from the mountains to the famous buildings. A Barcelona day tour usually includes a walk through the Plaza de Catalunya, which is the center of the city, known for its statues and beautiful fountains. Next, stop by the Gothic Quarter to view the historic 15th century buildings like the Barcelona Cathedral. Also, a one-day tour isn’t complete without a stop by the Plaza Sant Jaume, the location of all of Barcelona’s government buildings. You’ll get the chance to see so much on a one day tour, including the Villa Olimpica, which is home to Olympic athletes, and the Port Olimpic that you can tour on foot. The tour will include a climb up Montjuich Mountain, giving you an amazing and memorable view of the city and Barcelona’s harbor. This is just what you’ll see before lunch! The tour will include many more memorable sights like the Monumental Bull Ring and the well-known Cathedral Sta Maria del Mar. A one day Barcelona tour will usually conclude at the Picasso Museum.

One of the most exciting ways to get a feel of the culture in Barcelona is to try an affordable tapas walking tour. These tours combine the culture and wonderful cuisine, taking you on a fun tour of the famous tapas bars in Barcelona. The tour will teach you how to order tapas and is the best way to begin a visit to the historic city. A walking tapas tour will usually only take three hours and is completely guided, allowing you to see the famous La Bouqueria market and enjoy wine and some of the best tapas in Barcelona.

If you love an active lifestyle, consider a half-day bicycle tour of the city, which allows you to socialize with others and get an exciting view of Barcelona. These tours are perfect for visitors of all ages and can even be a great way to see the city with your entire family. You’ll ride at a relaxed speed over no hills, with stops made frequently at points of interest. The tour lasts four hours and covers plenty of ground, giving you a different view of Barcelona than you’ll get on a traditional tour.

An affordable and unique tour of Barcelona is the sailing cruise, which allows you to get great views of the city from the sea as you sail up and down the coast. The tour lasts two hours and gives you a wonderful picturesque view of the Cathedral, the Olympic Marina and more. Taking a sail boat and giving yourself a tour of Barcelona’s coast is an exciting adventure that you won’t regret.

Lastly, there’s the ultimate in adventurous tours: the hot air balloon tour over the city. These tours can be a few hundred dollars but offer the best way to see Barcelona and its outlying areas. You’ll enjoy a relaxing float above the city for 1-2 hours, taking in the panoramic views of the mountains, the Mediterranean Sea and Barcelona itself.

There are literally dozens of different tours you can take to enjoy your visit to Barcelona. The great thing is there’s one to suit anyone’s personality and tastes, allowing you to even create a custom tour for you and your party. Booking a tour in Barcelona is a great idea not just for first time visitors but those that have been to the city a hundred times; you’re bound to see or hear something new each time.

One type of outdoor activity is called bicycle touring. This is the process of loading up a bicycle with your gear and planning a trip to ride hundreds of miles over a certain period of time. Think of it as backpacking but using a bike instead of just hiking.

In order to complete a bicycle tour, there is quite a bit of preparation that you need to do before this is even possible. While some like the idea of just grabbing some gear and giving it a try, preparation for this type of thing is needed for a better experience.

The first thing that needs to be done is to improve your endurance on a bike. There are many local bicycle clubs that will have longer rides that you can do to build up your endurance and get used to riding longer periods of times. Many of these groups have programs that are designed to get cyclists ready for tours that they train for each year at some point in time.

You need to get your gear together. There is quite a bit of debate over what is needed and what is not needed to pack on a bicycle tour. Get your gear together and go out and test it. One way of doing this is to literally ride out to a camping location with some friends and spend the night just using the gear that is attached to your bikes. Do this a few times and you will start to find out what is necessary and what is not.

Look for planned tours that you can take part in. There are some organized events that will have a path that is marked for the riders and some even carry your camping equipment for you. It’s best to try one of these organized events before venturing off on your own. These will give you the basics while still having some support if anything goes wrong.

Modern kayaks are made up of various materials such as wood, fiberglass, Kevlar, fiber, rotomolded plastic or carbon fiber over the wooden or aluminum frame. They are available in various models that can accommodate single, double or even three to four persons. The modern kayaks are classified in various types such as sea kayak, surf kayaks, racing kayaks, whitewater kayaks, fishing kayaks, wavewalking kayaks and speciality and multi-type kayaks.

The sea kayak is suitable for one or two paddlers. They are having extreme stability, cargo capacity and more maneuverable. The sea kayaks are future classified as strip-built kayak, skin-on-frame kayak, recreational kayaks and sit-on-top kayaks. The strip-built kayaks are more similar to rigid fiberglass boat. But, it is very lightweight. The sit-on-top kayaks are used for diving and fishing. It can accommodate upto 1 or 2 even 3-4 persons. Generally, the seat of this type of kayak is above the water level which causes higher center of gravity.

The skin-on-frame kayak shows the similarity with the traditional kayaks in construction, material, design and technique. It is the lightest type of kayak that is used by Inuit people in Greenland for hunting purpose. The recreational kayaks are created for the paddlers who are more interested in photography, fishing or peaceful paddling in the lake. These kayaks have a larger cockpit and wide beam that offers more stability. The capacity of this type of kayak is limited.

The whitewater kayak is highly maneuverable. It is made up of the rigid material such as polyethylene. This type of kayak is smaller in size about 6-10 feet. They don’t need the inherent speed as they flow with the current.

The surf kayaks are also referred as the surf skis. They are long and narrow for surf breaking waves and surf zone rescue. The design of surf kayak is similar to whitewater kayak except a planing hull. The surf kayaks are about 12 feet long that increases the planing speed on wave. It is useful for having a good paddling speed to catch the waves.

The racing kayaks are specially designed for speed. They need to have the substantial skill to gain the stability due to extremely narrow hull. The slalom kayak and flat water kayak are sub-types of racing kayak. The multi-type kayak is of two types such as pedal kayak and inflatable kayak.

The modern kayaks are designed with Computer Aided Design software programs along with the naval design software. Modern kayaks are equipped with extra hulls to increase the stability, some are inflatable and some are having twin hulls. The length of the kayak and the rocker affect the maneuverability of the kayak.
